Character education and leadership development for K-5
Starting each day with a simple character-building activity sets a positive and productive tone for the entire day. Keystone curriculum from The Flippen Group provides teachers with all they need to make character education an important part of the day.
Keystone is a grade-level specific character education program for elementary grades. The curriculum requires only fifteen minutes of classroom time each day, yet instills and reinforces important principles that enhance character and decrease discipline problems.
Each grade-level has its own stories and activities, but all grades follow the same concept schedule. For instance, all grades cover Respect in January. The two-volume Teacher’s Activity Book provides discussion guides, games, crafts, role plays, and other activities. These materials can be used year after year. No teacher training is necessary, however Capturing Kids’ Hearts is highly recommended.
Outcomes: Through the Keystone curriculum, students will learn to recognize and display:
|
|
- Kindness
- Courage
- Self-control
- Forgiveness
- Respect
- Diligence
- Loyalty
- Honesty
- Confidence
|
| Approach: Keystone builds important elements of character and leadership through consistent reinforcement. Optimal results are achieved when every teacher on the campus presents Keystone principles and activities each day. Daily intercom messages from the principal, reinforcing Keystone content, are included.
Who: This course is intended for elementary school students of all backgrounds and abilities.
Getting started: To implement this curriculum, simply order the Keystone Classroom Kit (Teacher’s Activity Books and Storybook), to be used year after year. Individual kits are available for kindergarten through fifth grade. Schools should order one kit per classroom. For more information, please call The Flippen Group at 800.316.4311.

“Students labeled as ‘behavior problems,’ ‘extremely needy,’ and ‘never happy,” are now responsible, happy, and productive members of our class, thanks to Keystone.”
